“In Greek mythology, Aether is one of the primordial deities. Aether is the personification of the “upper sky embodying the pure upper air that the gods breathe, as opposed to the normal air breathed by mortals.”
This series of abstract landscape oil paintings, started in the winter of 2019 / 2020 and expands on similar themes developed in the “Supernature” series of abstract landscape paintings, using palette knives instead of brushes to create effects with the oil paint itself.
This creates a flatter, less textural finish to the works, than in the “Supernature” series, while retaining a sense of depth, movement and light...
In using this theme as a basis for the works, I am creating a journey from the first dawn symbolised in “Lightbringer: through various stages of ethereal landscapes.

The Nine Worlds
The first six paintings in the “Aether Worlds" series evolved into another collection, this time derived from photos of the paintings themselves.
Quite by accident I created a circle around one of the paintings and thought that it looked like a planet ! After a good deal of experimentation I formed the first nine Aether Worlds.
This may well develop into a larger series of works but for now I am fascinated by these “worlds”.
The following images show the individual planets named loosely after classical mythology.
